#14 - Subtropical Deforestation
Hi Greensters,
🌆 New York has officially gone subtropical. Yep, the Big Apple now shares a climate category with cities like Atlanta and Tokyo - thanks to rising heat and humidity, it's a sweaty new reality.
🌳 Meanwhile, Brazil is bending the curve on deforestation. After a brutal spike in forest loss, 2024 saw a 32% drop in Amazon clearing. Progress? Yes. Victory? Not yet.
🍆 And dinner? Crispy sesame eggplant steaks that sizzle like summer, without burning the planet.

🥗 The Green Meal
🍆 As a warm-weather vegetable, eggplant thrives in subtropical and Mediterranean climates with minimal irrigation. It’s very low in greenhouse gas emissions and grows efficiently on small plots, making it an ideal choice for sustainable diets. Nutritionally, it’s high in fiber and antioxidants like nasunin, which protects cells from oxidative stress. And because it's so good at soaking up flavor, it makes an excellent plant-based alternative in savory dishes - all while keeping your carbon footprint low.
♻️ Eco Tip
Awareness: 🚿 Many people rinse recyclables with running water, thinking it’s necessary - but this habit wastes clean water for little gain. Most recycling centers can handle a bit of food residue, especially on containers like jars, tins, and cartons.
Action: 🧽 Instead of rinsing, just scrape or wipe out excess food. Save your water for what really matters and keep recycling simple and efficient.
