#24 - When Plants Hit Their Limit
Hi Greensters,
🔥 New research reveals something startling: during one of Earth’s biggest ancient heatwaves, plants broke down — and the planet stayed hot for over 100,000 years.
🌿 It’s a window into how ecosystems can tip from climate stabilisers into climate stressors, and why today’s much faster warming should make us pay attention.
🥦 And for something far more uplifting: a fast, bright, zesty tempeh–broccoli stir-fry that’s plant-based, protein-rich, and weeknight friendly.

🥗 The Green Meal
Tempeh is one of the most sustainable protein sources available. Because it’s made from fermented soybeans rather than grown as livestock feed, it requires dramatically less land, water, and energy to produce. Broccoli, meanwhile, is a climate-efficient crop that thrives in cooler seasons and offers a high nutrient return for its footprint.
Together, they create a dish that delivers bold flavour with minimal environmental cost — a great example of how plant-based meals can be both nourishing and climate-friendly.
♻️ Eco Tip
🌱 Awareness:
Fresh herbs like cilantro, basil, and parsley are among the most commonly wasted foods. They wilt quickly, and once slimy, they’re tossed — adding unnecessary emissions to the food cycle.
🌿 Action:
Store soft herbs like flowers: trim the stems and place them upright in a glass of water in the fridge (or at room temperature for basil). Top with a reusable silicone bag or beeswax wrap. This simple shift keeps herbs fresh for up to two weeks, cutting waste and saving money.
