#28 - Forever Chemicals

Hi Greensters,

đź’§ A real breakthrough on “forever chemicals.”
Researchers have developed a new water filter that doesn’t just trap PFAS - it destroys them, fast, and can be reused.

🧪 From endless pollution to closed-loop cleanup.
The tech captures PFAS up to 100× faster than today’s filters and breaks them down into stable, safe materials.

🍄 Comfort food, Greenster style.
A creamy oat risotto with mushrooms and kale proves winter meals can be both cozy and climate-smart.

Let’s dive in

🥗 The Green Meal

Oats aren’t just for breakfast. When cooked slowly, they release starches much like arborio rice, creating that signature risotto creaminess - without the imported grain.

🌱 Why this matters:
Oats are typically grown in cooler climates, require less irrigation than rice, and produce far lower methane emissions. Mushrooms add a deep umami flavor while using a fraction of the land and resources of meat, and kale thrives in winter fields when many vegetables can’t. Together, they make a nutrient-dense, low-impact meal that fits the season - and the planet.

♻️ Eco Tip

Awareness:
PFAS chemicals are often introduced into water systems through everyday products like non-stick cookware, stain-resistant textiles, and grease-proof food packaging.

Action:
Choose PFAS-free cookware (cast iron, stainless steel, ceramic) and avoid grease-resistant paper products when possible. Cutting demand upstream helps reduce how much of these “forever chemicals” ever reach our water - long before filters are needed.
