#29 - The Longest Wildlife Corridor on Earth

Hi Greensters,

🌍 A conservation milestone is taking shape at the end of the world.
Chile is moving to protect nearly 200,000 hectares of wild Patagonian coastline - completing one of the longest continuous wildlife corridors on Earth.

🦌 From endangered deer and pumas to carbon-storing peatlands, Cape Froward could become a crucial link in keeping Patagonia’s ecosystems connected, resilient, and alive.

🍽️ And for something closer to home: a golden, warming traybake packed with squash, chickpeas, tahini, and winter comfort - low effort, big flavour, low footprint.

Let’s dive in.

🥗 The Green Meal

Winter food doesn’t need to be heavy to be comforting.

🎃 Butternut squash is a seasonal powerhouse - naturally sweet, long-keeping, and far less resource-intensive than meat-based winter dishes.

🌱 Chickpeas deliver protein with a fraction of the emissions of animal sources, while tahini adds richness without dairy.

🥬 Toss in kale and pomegranate, and you’ve got a meal that’s nourishing, climate-friendly, and deeply satisfying - all from a single tray.

Less energy, less washing up, more flavour. That’s a win.

♻️ Eco Tip

Awareness:
♻️ In Northern Europe’s highly automated recycling systems, around 20–30% of material placed in recycling bins is incorrectly sorted.
These “wish-cycled” items - soft plastics, greasy paper, mixed materials - can contaminate entire loads, meaning even correctly sorted waste may end up incinerated instead of recycled.

Action:
🧠 Use the Nordic rule: “When in doubt, leave it out.”
If you’re unsure, put the item in residual waste and check your local sorting guide later. Fewer wrong items = higher real recycling rates.
