#31 - Oceanic Carbon
Hi Greensters,
🌊 What if the ocean could help clean up our carbon mess? Scientists and startups are exploring a bold idea: removing CO₂ directly from seawater to help lower atmospheric carbon levels.
⚙️ It sounds promising - but scaling it up is the real challenge. Extracting carbon from the ocean could be more efficient than pulling it from air, yet doing it at climate-meaningful scale will require huge infrastructure and energy.
🥗 And this week’s Green Meal? A crunchy, flavor-packed Peanut Garden Bowl loaded with fresh greens, crispy rice, roasted cashews, and a silky peanut dressing.
Let’s dive in.
🗞️ In the News
🥗 The Green Meal
🥬 Fresh cucumber, peas, edamame, and broccoli form the base of this bowl, bringing fiber, plant protein, and plenty of crunch. Crispy rice and roasted cashews add texture, while toasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of chili oil give it a little heat.
A smooth peanut dressing ties everything together and coats the vegetables without overpowering them.
🌱 Meals built around vegetables, legumes, and grains generally use far fewer resources to produce than meat-heavy dishes. Ingredients like edamame and peanuts provide strong plant-based protein, making this bowl a filling option with a much smaller environmental footprint.
♻️ Eco Tip
Awareness: 🍂 Many households treat leaves, grass clippings, and small branches as garden “waste” and throw them away or take them to the recycling center. But this material is actually rich in nutrients and organic matter that would naturally feed the soil if returned to the garden.
Action: 🌱 Start a small compost pile or bin and use the finished compost in your garden beds. Over time it improves soil structure, helps the soil retain water, and provides slow-release nutrients for plants — reducing the need for store-bought fertilizers while turning garden “waste” into a valuable resource.
